The Friends of Portswood Rec is a group of local people who would like to see better maintenance and improved facilities at Portswood Rec in Southampton. Come to a meeting, the Friends of Portswood Rec hold regular local meetings, usually on the last Thursday of the month, and welcome anyone who shares their aims and is interested in making a difference at the Rec.

2015  has got  off to a flying start.  we are please to announce that we have secured £35,000 in funding from the SITA trust to replace  the old wooden ship in the play area check out the new play area in the video.

2014 Saw  Friends of Portswood Rec go from strength to strength. Our two major projects for this year have been to secure grant funding for further improvements to the play area,  and to increase involvement in upkeep of the Rec.  Our grant application is progressing well and we hope to hear in December if we have been successful with our application.

We have been really pleased by all the help you have given us in supporting maintenance of the Rec. Lots of parents and friends have joined our play area clean up days,  and the play area is now looking better than ever.

Lukas and Pawel  have been keeping the weeds around the tennis court down, and have swept up over 4 cubic meters of mud and  rotting leaves from the footpath by the school which has been greatly appreciated  by everyone taking children to school on wet days.

2013 was an exciting year for the Friends of Portswood Rec, with two major projects coming to fruition. The long awaited refresh of the Play Area was completed in the Spring, with a redesigned octopus climbing frame incorporating a slide for the younger children and a new installation of a pyramid climbing frame. In the Autumn, following a successful campaign and grant application from the Fields In Trust Inclusion Fund work began on the installation of an access ramp at the Brickfield Road entrance to the Rec. The ramp was completed shortly before Christmas and is now in regular use and appreciated by anyone with mobility problems, or pushchairs, bikes etc who no longer have to struggle climbing the old concrete steps.

We also supported Southampton City Council in organising another successful Community Fun Day with games and activities for all ages.
